Purpose
Leadership Oldham County was formed by the Oldham County Chamber of
Commerce as a community program designed to further the development of
Oldham County's present and future leaders. Each year a class which
represents a broad cross-section of our community meets on a regular basis,
to study the organizations and issues which shape Oldham County.
The goal of the program is to educate participants about Oldham County's
needs and resources, while developing leadership skills and creating a
vision for the community. Class members then seek ways to translate that
vision into action. |
Participants
Participants will have previously demonstrated leadership ability and
potential, are dedicated to social progress, and have the energies to devote
to community involvement.
Program
Leadership Oldham County is a nine month program of exploration and
training, asking critical questions about issues unique to Oldham County. |

The course begins with a one and a half day orientation in September,
and then meets for one full day each month, October through May, for intense
study of all major aspects of the community.
Each session will include discussions with key community leaders, tours
of local facilities, group exercises and other activities. Sessions
are one full day per month.
Class members also participate in "enhancements" that allow them to
prepare for upcoming sessions. Enhancements may include attending
a public governmental meeting, riding in a patrol car with police officers,
observing a hospital surgery or sitting in on a criminal trial. Participants
complete enhancements on their own during a specified time period.
Throughout the year concepts of community trusteeship are built into the
learning.
Leadership Oldham County graduates are challenged to become active trustees
of the community, accepting ownership of community issues and leadership.
