Chamber Continues to Support Airport Possibilities

[Apr 4, 2008 12:14 PM]

The Oldham County Chamber of Commerce continues to get inquiries about the status of the Oldham County airport project and its stand on the issue.  I want to take this opportunity to offer an update on the Chamber’s position on an airport.

The Oldham County Chamber of Commerce fully supports the analysis and further investigation of an airport for Oldham County.  Because our agency is charged with expanding Oldham County’s non-residential tax base, and creating a healthy environment for smart economic development, the Chamber has an obligation to support the research and investigation into the development of an airport in Oldham County.

The Airport Board met earlier this year and agreed on two things:

·         NOT to use eminent domain in purchasing or acquiring land for the airport, and:

·         NOT to consider any sites until the Airport Board has completed a series of analysis offering additional information.

Each Airport board member is heading up research into four categories.  These board members are not getting paid and do this at the expense of their own time with family, friends and work.  The Board’s goal is to determine if an airport in Oldham County is a viable option and would be successful.

Airport Board members are studying four categories of information:

·          Economic Impact on Oldham County’s economy

·          Land Impact Analysis on the area and its surrounding parcels

·          Business Plan

·          Communication (Public Input and Information Output)

These are the reasons the Oldham County Chamber of Commerce continues to support the work of the Airport Board and the Oldham County Fiscal Court.  This is an important project to our community and we owe it to all of our citizens to be sure it is the right thing for our future economy.
