Oldham Chamber and Economic Development Consider Combining Efforts

[Apr 1, 2009 02:02 PM]

The Oldham County Economic Development Agency (OCEDA) and the Oldham County Chamber of Commerce (OCCC) have been discussing ideas for a possible merger.  Since September, 2008, members from both boards, and various business and community leaders have been brainstorming on how to provide stronger, more effective ways to serve businesses in Oldham County.  All ideas lead towards OCEDA and the Chamber combining resources and creating more collaborative strategies around business outreach and attraction, event planning and membership development.

“The most important thing we can do for businesses right now is to keep reaching out to them to show our support, and provide marketing and educational resources that can help them to grow their business,” said Robin Lawson, chair of the Oldham County Chamber of Commerce board of directors.  “Combining resources and working together seems like the most logical and effective way to do this.”

An organizational structure has been developed and members can review the model attached.  It is not anticipated that a new organization will cost any additional money.  Both agencies already share costs, personnel, and office space.

Both boards have seen the new organizational model and have expressed approval with the direction the new structure offers.  It is expected to be approved at an April /May board meeting.  After approval, the boards will develop new bylaws and board structures accordingly.

The Oldham County Chamber of Commerce has approximately 400 members.  OCEDA was instrumental in relocating The Rawlings Company from downtown Louisville to the Oldham Reserve.  For more informationor to share your thoughts or suggestions, please contact Deana Karem, 222-1635 or DEKarem@OldhamCountyChamber.com.
